Paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) has resulted in the banning of mussel harvesting along the Oregon coast. A joint announcement was made this week by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Oregon Department of Agriculture due to the increasing risks associated with collecting and consuming toxic shellfish in certain areas. The closure applies to all mussels found on the jetties, beaches, bay entrances, and rocks. What is Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning? Over the weekend, 7 members of a Seattle family were severely sickened and subsequently hospitalized after eating mussels that they had harvested from Discovery Bay in Washington State. Suffering from paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP), the family was taken to the hospital and one member even had to be placed on a ventilator. In Leviticus 11, our Creator gave us very specific instructions about what we’re supposed to consume and what He considers to be an abomination.
