Below is a reply that I wrote to an individual in response to her claim that the Tanakh (Old Testament) was not a necessary read for believers today. She takes the position that everything needed to properly walk out our faith (and be saved) is contained in the Messianic Writings. I disagree. As shocking as it might be for some of us to see a so-called believer openly devalue the very Scriptures that our Messiah taught from, it is the logical end of the road that one comes to when they believe the “law was done away with”. Walk into any given church today, and you’re most likely to encounter the message that striving to keep the perfect instructions given to us by our Father (the Torah, or “Law”) is completely unnecessary. In fact, some will even go so far as to condemn obedience to the Creator’s instructions and accuse those who do so as having “fallen from grace”.
